Meanwhile, got another outbreak of eczema and finally dragged bum down to the doctor's to get some blood panels. Should get results of that by the end of the week; keeping fingers crossed for something definitive/

Today was bloody unproductive. Messed around with polymer clay until noon, then cranked out a couple of cat paintings. Really need to work on something large and.. you know. Conceptually driven.

And here's a 12x12 inch tidbit on subject of aprons.(For an upcoming group show.) 've never taken aprons to apply domestically- none of my relations wore them while cooking. Instead, aprons always meant studio to me.

5x5x2.5 inches, box with a polymer clay tile in it. The tile is polymer clay, cultured pearls, and acrylic.  ....Today was another day of running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Submitted some of the polymer clay stuff to the local artisan center, but wouldn't hear from them until mid-September. In the end, the fact stands-- all I want to do is make these things. If the cost is having to worry about money, well. Worry I shall. Meanwhile-- studio is paid up for until November. Off to creation-land! :D

I worked some more, coming to realization: I would much rather spend 8 hours a day making stuff than marketing stuff. Maybe, someday...

First of all, a mandatory art update after the week-long family gathering in the sands of Delaware.

Secondly, finally made the move to an actual studio outside of the home. One of the artists at the local museum wanted to cut costs, so here I am... It's a darn nice space.

Now 've got to figure out a way to afford it on a monthly basis...

The past year..

It's been odd. Since moving out here, into the midst of the mountains and its people, I find myself increasingly disoriented.

A few days back, a friend and I had a conversation about the state of the arts in Virginia, and in the rural Appalachia in particular. I recall telling her that I believed this-- regardless of income, those who create have an inherent value to society. We do what few have done before. We are a cultural asset.

Looking back on the past three years, I find that I believe this assessment wholeheartedly. We must create to further our kind. Yet how many realize that this is so? How many are so hopelessly romantic?

Originally, I wanted to do a fox'n'raven scene in polymer clay. Will settle for a fox and unborn ravens, however.
