Figure it doesn't look like 90 cents anymore. ;)

Acrylic Inks

Been considering using acrylic inks for a while now- at least two people I know use them with great results. Finally picked some up Friday at Cheap Joe's and tried them out today.

The inks were satisfactory. They're like watercolor that does not flow after drying. Very crisp and clean feeling to them. (All the images below were done on 9.5x11 watercolor paper, 140lbs)

Happy Autumn

Moonfish is 28 hours and 42 minutes in, and, after coming in and looking at it for way too long this morning, 've decided to paint something entirely for myself. The topic was cutesey animals, since the set of Faerie Frogs actually sold this weekend. (Among other things. We had a spontaneous 12-artist show at a local pottery place; everyone ended up selling one or more things, and much trading was done.)

Therefore.. lo and behold. Happy Autumn! (Watercolor and ink, 10x13ish)

Chickies Galore

Currently working on a number of 24x48 inch pieces for the November thing at the Appalachian Spirit Gallery. Should have started on that batch in the beginning of the summer. Gods, I love last minute panic! :D

Plein air and a chickie.

First of all, obligatory Chickie. Chickies, as featured in my silly attempt at children's book illustration last winter, are tiny birds that live in the forest and like berries. They do not like bugs, worms, or evil things that eat them, but will use tools to achieve their goals.

The following two are a result from my first-ever plein air outing with a group of fellow artists. Plein air is scary-- the light keeps moving.  Each is 12x12 inches, acrylic on board.

Chickies

Occasionally (about once every year), I get filled with enthusiasm and try to write/publish a book. Actually, writing is the easy part. It's the publishing bit that I haven't gotten around to mastering.

The most recent creative effort along these lines involves a children's book about a pair of flightless birds that discover some berries and build a ladder to get to them. The birds are of a "chickie" breed, or a breed invented to amuse my baby sister. They are blob-like, short-limbed, and utterly silly.

This is the inking of the first page. The added text is: "There lived in the forest two flightless birds..."
Currently am on page 10 out of 14 with it.
