Time shortage

Just a tiny Wrenliness today, due to a time shortage on this end. Chronically short of work for the end of May show.

Speaking of work for the show.. went plein-air painting with a friend last week, and this is based off of that. The umbrella-like plant is a cohosh, and the salamander- Appalachian woodland one.

Firebirds and whelks

North Carolinian conks are not actually conks. They are whelks. *Nods sagely.

Reason for lack of updates.

Elrin and I've been off to Nags Head, fishing. Caught 12 clearnose skates (all in one day and off of Jennette's Pier), kept 4 of them. Skate make excellent eating. Also caught about 20 pounds of seaweed shore-fishing. The said seaweed contained this tiny crab (actually, 3 of them. Plus some tiny shrimp and a hermit crab.)
There were lots of gulls. They may or may not have been encouraged by bread.

And 4 mornings out of 6, I went out seashell hunting at dawn. May have been a wee bit obsessive about it, but, what can you do.
Now, off to paint some last-second large pieces for a show 'm chronically short for.
Like the seashell says:

Friday

You are totally a freelancing artist.
You wake up, fix breakfast for yourself, lunch for hubby, and go out for coffee with a friend. Then you come home. Draw for an hour. Realize that you need to get hubby's meds refilled and a package dropped off. Go do that, which takes an hour. Come home and realize that laundry needs to be done. Draw for another couple of hours, all the while waiting to switch out/fold the laundry. Then go off to drop off a couple of paintings in a nearby gallery and pick up dry-cleaning. Then it's time to fix dinner.

Oh yeah. You are totally a freelancing artist and totally kick ass in the creative productivity department.

Above was written with a healthy measure of sarcasm.

Also, here's the sketches for the upcoming wolf.

Which will be painted on approximately $3/hr basis.

... You are a totally awesome freelancer artist and kick ass, don't forget.

Kitty Sense

Kitty sense, tingling!

I like cats... but not to eat 'em... I like cats, I like to greet 'em!~

On a rather disturbing side-note, the first cat I remember my grandparents having (Nessik, who actually looked fairly similar to this guy) disappeared outside in the post-Soviet depression years. One of the neighbors saw some man catch him in a sack and carry him away. We're 99% sure that the cat ended up as sausage. :\

Pop

Surprise!
12x16 inches
Acrylic on board

Surprise lily foliage is beginning to come up.. Can't wait until the flowers do! (Would be even better if the flowers had a "pop!" sound effect to them, but one can't have everything, I guess.)
